What is Strattera?

Strattera is a brand name for medication containing Atomoxetine. It is famous for being used as a treatment of ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). It is a stimulant that works directly on the brain.

It suppresses the production of different chemicals in the brain to give a feeling of calmness. This helps decrease the symptoms of ADHD and at the same time improve attention, focus, and concentration. This medication was made available for public use in 2002. It is among the 250 most prescribed medications in the US. Many doctors in the USA consider this medication as a replacement of Adderall which is the most used medication for ADHD treatment. Unlike Adderall which is available in tablet form, Strattera is only available in capsule form.

How To Consume Strattera?

Strattera should be used as instructed by the doctor. Usually, doctor will ask patients to take one single capsule every morning soon after waking up. For people with severe ADHD, a second dose might be required. The second dose should be taken in the later afternoon after lunch. Taking a dose after the late afternoon is not recommended. Taking a dose late in the day can hinder the sleep at night. So just keep in mind that a patient will be unable to sleep for at least 6-10 hours after taking a dose. Patients should not open capsules before consumption. Always swallow it whole with a glass of water and wait 20-30 minutes before it starts working.

What Are Side Effects of Strattera?

Atomoxetine can cause different types of side effects. It is advised that children under the age of 6 should not be given this medication.
