What is Valium?
Valium is the brand name for medication that is medically known as Diazepam. Diazepam belongs to a group of medications known as benzodiazepines. Benzodiazepines are the most commonly used medications for treating anxiety. Valium along with Xanax is considered to be one of the most prescribed, sold, and used medication in the US. Apart from anxiety Valium is also used to treat panic attacks, seizures, insomnia, and substance abuse.
Valium was introduced in the US market in 1963 and it was the top-selling medication in the ’70s. it is one of the safest and most effective medications for anxiety treatment and necessary for any healthcare system as per WHO (World Health Organization). It is a Schedule IV medication which means a patient will need a prescription to purchase and consume this medication.
How To Consume Valium?
Valium is available in liquid and tablet forms. While consuming it in liquid form it should be measured properly with a spoon or a dosing syringe. This will help in avoiding an overdose. While in tablet form patients should consume the tablets without chewing, breaking, or crushing. The time between doses should be measured and maintained in order to avoid an overdose.
Long term use of this medication is usually not a recommendation. Precautions for Valium Usage
People who are allergic to benzodiazepines should not be prescribed Valium. Apart from that people suffering from heart, lungs, liver, or kidney diseases should also avoid using this medication unless prescribed.
People with a history of substance abuse should also use this medication with extreme care. Dependency can develop if used for a long period of time. Using this medication along with alcohol or marijuana should be avoided. Using them it can cause severe effects and induce dizziness or sleepiness.
The use of the medication during pregnancy or nursing should be avoided. It can be passed to the unborn or nursing baby and cause adverse effects. if you have been prescribed this medication let your personal doctor know if you get pregnant or make plans of getting pregnant.
